He was predeceased by: his parents, James J. Smith and Ruth Collins (Tucker); and his wife Sharon Smith. He is survived by: his son Dennis J. Smith (LeeAnn) of Wantage; his grandchildren, Christian Smith (Rose) of Rahway and Isabel Smith of North Caldwell; his sister-in-law Ida Smith of New York State; his niece Kathleen Mott (Lucien) of New York State; his nephew Thomas Smith of New York State; his former wife Maria Smith of Jersey City; and his pet Clancy.
