We announce the death of Barbara J. Rutan of Oakhurst, New Jersey, born in Ocean, New Jersey, who passed away on May 31, 2026, at the age of 91. Barbara will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Edward Rutan; her sister Merry Handy (Martell); and her parents, Fred Martell and Louise Martell. She is survived by: her sisters, Annette Martell Schmidt of Shrewsbury, NJ, Ruth Lynch of Ocean Gate, NJ and Christine Capay of Closter, NJ; her daughter Carol Scollay (James Scollay); her grandchildren, Patrick and Katie; and her grandchildren-in-law, Amanda and Christian. She is also survived by great-grandchild and many other loving family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Trinity Church in her honor.
