He was predeceased by : his parents, Angelina Flanagan and John Flanagan Junior (JR); his brother Johnny Flanagan III; his niece Alice Flanagan; and his pets, Snoopy and Godiva.

He is survived by : his grandchildren, Meadow and River Flanagan; his children, Ryan, Meghan Flanagan, Jillian Flanagan, Corey Phillips, Justin Flanagan and Jennie Sutton; his girlfriend Nancy Kaminsky; his former life partner Thomasina Essig Flanagan; and his sister Sandy (Charles Bongiovanni).

Craig Price wrote a sympathy message

“To Tom's family< Tom and I were "dog park" friends since I began to take my dogs to the Sayreville dog. park over 9 yrs ago. He would always greet me with a smile and I was always so glad to seem him. I knew Godiva, Beagle, and Thor. and am very saddened to hear of his passing recently . He was a nice man liked by all at the park. I know he worked hard and was thinking about retirement in a couple of years He will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to his family.
