She was predeceased by: her parents, Jacob "Jake" Hairston and Nora Fowlkes Hairston; her husband Malcom Carter; her daughter Lisa Davis; her sisters, Ella B. Staples, Harriett Flood, Mary "Sis" Gravely, Juanita Mahan and Virginia Roberts; and also Jacob "Jake" Hairston, Jr..
She is survived by: her children, Beverly Epps (Michael) of Richmond, Lee Hairston of Piedmont, Anthony Carter (Sonja) of Piedmont, Melvin Carter of Martinsville, Virginia, Ron Carter of Martinsville, Virginia and Danny Carter of Martinsville, Virginia; and her grandchildren, Aaron, Tiara, Sean (Ashley), Morgan, Jalen, Esaundra, Isiah, Nelvia, Ricky and Kevin. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
