Jean T Murphy Obituary

Jean T. Murphy, a longtime resident of Pequannock, entered into eternal life on Wed., January 12, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born in Bronx, NY the daughter of Eleanor and Thomas Duffy. She met the love of her life Bob Murphy while watching him play basketball. Their first date was on St. Patrick Day and they walked all around the city. They were the perfect couple; recently celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.

Jean & Bob were married on June 17, 1951, at St. Rita's Church in the Bronx. They moved to Pequannock in 1963, were they raised their six children. She worked at Clothing Town for a short while when her children were older, but mostly she devoted her time to her family and her church.

She was one of the first Eucharistic ministers at Holy Spirit Church and was a member of the Holy Rosary Society.

Jean loved to sing and dance and just make people happy; whether it was running a benefit dance at Holy Spirit Church or just sending donations to the hometess. She was always singing along to the music on the radio or in the church choir.

Jean treasured her family first and foremost, and was always there to babysit her grandchildren, great grandchildren or great, great grandchild, whenever the need arose. Jean may not have learned to drive or master cooking, but she undoubtedly was a great role model to her children.

Jean possessed a wonderful spirit that radiated love, compassion, non-judgement, forgiveness, supportive, gratitude, generosity and positivity. She always saw the good in any situation and shared her positive attitude with everyone.

Jean was such a talented writer, she could have wrote for Hallmark. She had the amazing ability to write such eloquent cards that they would sing to you. They made you cry, but at the same time put a smile on your face. Every single one of them was heartfelt and made each recipient feel so, so special.

Jean's lifelong best friend and partner in crime was her twin sister Joan. Jean and Joan never lived more than a block away from each other. When Jean moved to Pequannock, the following year Joan moved around the block from her. Where ever Jean was, so was Joan. Jean may have been the more vocal one, the planner, but Joan was always right be her side. Living next door to family members and her sister around the block, Jean's house was always buzzing with family and friends; just dropping by to say hello. Whenever you were down or lonely, Jean was there to pick you up.

There will never be a person who held people and the joy of life so precious, practiced her faith, was humorous, kind and truly caring about everyone like Jean. Jean was one of a kind who will be truly missed by all that she touched. We will always treasure the time we had with her, and know she is with God now looking over all of us! We were truly blessed to have had Jean in our lives! "As the movie said, "It's a Wonderful Life with a Heart filled with Love" Jean Murphy definitely filled all our hearts with her Love! Jean was a ray of sunshine. Always optimistic, cheerful and grateful for her blessings. She saw the best in everyone and did her best to make sure they saw it too. She always had a kind word, a compliment and funny uplifting story to tell. She always thought of others first and was the first to offer her help to anyone. Her door was always open and any afternoon you could find Mom having tea with one of her neighbors or family members. Her devotion to her faith, church and family was truly amazing.
