Janet R. Saving Obituary
Janet was born of proud German parents in what was then the largely German neighborhood of Glendale, Queens. After her marriage, she and her first husband William Umpleby moved to East Brunswick. She was widowed very young but continued to raise her family alone for many years until remarriage and moving to Piscataway with her second husband Robert Saving. Janet was employed by Boys Life magazine for 20 years. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren ensuring that they had both culture and enough of her Macy's coupons to last a lifetime. Her favorite place in the world was in her garden, supervising our step-father in the constant movement of shrubs and perennial flowers. She was chair of the Chancel Guild at her church. Our mom was a survivor, a strong-willed independent Mother and an ever so slightly more forgiving Grandmother. We will miss her.
She was predeceased by her husband William Umpleby and second husband Robert Saving, her sister Christine and brother Richard.
Surviving are her children Allison Caulfield (Patrick) and Jonathan Umpleby and grandchildren Caitlin Caulfield and Timothy Caulfield (Breanne).
Memorial service will be 11am Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Christ Methodist Church in Piscataway. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ Methodist Church, 485 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, NJ 08854.
