She was predeceased by: her parents, Joan Penuel and F. L. "Lum" Penuel. She is survived by: her husband Kenneth H. Thompson; her mother-in-law Phyllis Thompson; her children, Darla Thompson (Jason Wassum), Chelsi Thompson (Scott Cunningham), Kenneth Thompson, Jr. (Caroline), Ashley Thompson and Wyatt Thompson; her grandchildren, Ryder Thompson and Sadie Cunningham; her brothers, Bruce Penuel (Gwen), Steve Penuel (Cheryl), Jeff Penuel and Scott Penuel (Theresa Rivera); her cousin Linda Polvere (Michael); her nieces and nephews, Craig Penuel, Tabitha Peck (Carleton), Kim Penuel and Diane Geromi (Craig); her brother Kevin "Bowl" Austin (Elaine); and her nephew Danny Maier.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Kelley Funeral Home (125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ 08071). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the Manahath Cemetery (730 N Main St, Glassboro, NJ 08028).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Karen's name can be made to Highland Chemical Engine Company at 109 E. Woodland Ave., Pitman, NJ 08071.
