He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Elizabeth Hance Starkey Cook and Austin C. Starkey, Sr.; his children, Emily B. Starkey, Betsy Starkey and Sam Starkey Jr.; his former wife Emily W. Starkey; his brother Austin C. Starkey Jr.; his daughter-in-law Anna Hayne Starkey; his grandchildren, Rett and Hallie Starkey; and his brothers, Ross Hewson and William Hewson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the New Jersey Museum of Boating.
