With solemn reverence, we commemorate Geraldine Louise Matthes of Roselle, New Jersey, whose life came to an end on January 10, 2026 at the age of 85, leaving behind cherished memories. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Theodore Kern and Jean Kern (Kacinskas); her husband Carl J. Matthes; her son Carl J. Matthes Jr.; and her sister-in-law Rose Kern.
She is survived by: her daughters, Danielle Ricci (William), Michelle Gargiulo (Jason) and Jerilyn Crimaldi (Anthony); her grandchildren, Billy, Camden, Anthony, Thomas, Brandon, Ryan and Grace; her siblings, Jeanne Spigai (Richard), Theodore Kern (Zoraia), Robert Kern (Donna) and Leonard Kern (Laura); and her sister-in-law Margaret Schmidt (George). She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 13th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Walter Johnson Funeral Home (803 Raritan Rd, Clark, NJ 07066). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 14th 2026 at 9:00 AM at the same location. A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, January 14th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Church of St. Joseph the Carpenter (160 E 3rd Ave, Roselle, NJ 07203). A burial was held on Wednesday, January 14th 2026 at 11:45 AM at the St. Gertrude Cemetery (53 Inman Ave, Colonia, NJ 07067).
