He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph H. Schafer and Bernice Rehbein Schafer. He is survived by: his wife Michele Hansen Schafer; his children, Joseph Robert Schafer (Ashley), Andrew John Schafer (AnnaMarie) and Krista Michele Anderson (John); his siblings, Thomas Schafer (MaryAnne), Kathleen Lombardo, Jackie O'Keefe and Lynn Turner (Gary); his mother-in-law Marlene Lacy; and his grandchildren, Joseph Patrick Schafer, Nora Jean Schafer and Brooke Ashlee Anderson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
