He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Thomas Akins and Clementine Smith Akins; his grandparents, Clement, Merlice Smith and Locka; his brother Donald Akins (Lillie Akins); and his niece Gabriella Akins-Sweat.
He is survived by: his wife Dr. Sondra Barber Akins; his daughters, Dana Akins-Adeyemi (Olufemi Adeyemi) and Meredith Akins (Julio Peña); his grandchildren, Dr. Nathan Adeyemi, Naomi Adeyemi, Tinuke Adeyemi and Niko Peña-Akins; his niece Michelle Akins; his nephews, Donald Akins and Desmond Akins; and his great-niece Mikeya Akins. He is also survived by relatives, friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Englewood (351 W Englewood Ave, Englewood, NJ 07631). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
