The memory of Rubey Freda Choonoo of Tenafly, New Jersey, who passed away on October 3, 2025 at the age of 102, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. Though Rubey may no longer walk beside us, her memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Rubey touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In her absence, her spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Matthew Lawrence and Sama Lawrence; her grandparents, Grace and John Thomas; and her husband Allan Choonoo.
She is survived by: her aunt Roob; her child Himalaya House; and her aunt Gam. She is also survived by her children, six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Barrett Leber Funeral Home (148 Dean Dr, Tenafly, NJ 07670). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Tenafly United Methodist Church (34 W Clinton Ave, Tenafly, NJ 07670). A burial will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 at the Brookside Cemetery (425 Engle St, Englewood, NJ 07631).
She knitted for her children's cardigans when they were little, she undertook several projects knitting and crocheting for charity.
