He was predeceased by: his wife Cecilia Turra; and his parents, Rodolfo Gadenz and Maria Pia Gadenz. He is survived by: his children, Maria (J. Michael Stanton Jr.), Rodolfo Gadenz (Amalia) and Pablo Gadenz; his grandson Joseph Stanton III; and his sister Liliana Rech. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
