He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth Smeaton, and Alexander F. Smeaton, Sr.; his wives, Carol Scales Smeaton and Lois Swan Smeaton; his daughter Nancy E. Greco (Thomas); and his sister Dorothy Smeaton.
He is survived by: his children, James R. Smeaton (Anne) of Greer, SC, Thomas A. Smeaton (Angela) of Eatontown, NJ and Diane Kennedy of Belmar, NJ.; his grandchildren, J. Robert (Ashley), Daniel (Morgan), Thomas (Stephanie), Kevin (Grace), Michael Smeaton and Kristen Greco; his cousin Agnes Shaffery; and his close friend Nancy Britton. He is also survived by two great grandchildren.
