He was predeceased by: his wife Mary; his parents, Demetrius Papathomas and Sunday Papathomas; and his son James Thomas. He is survived by: his daughter Lori (Frank Vastano); his grandsons, James and George Vastano; his stepgrandchildren, Frankie (Katrina Vastano) and Vanessa (Michael Defies); his sister-in-law Patsy Trepcos; his nieces and nephews, Elaine, Jacqueline, John, Yorkie and Vivi; Mila, Chloe, Michael, Dominic and Dean Mavrovitis.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (250 Gallows Hill Rd, Westfield, NJ 07090). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A committal service will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd 2026 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the Fairview Cemetery (1100 E Broad St, Westfield, NJ 07090).
In 2017, George opened his doors to help victims of Hurricane Irma, giving one hundred percent of the donations to the Volunteer Florida Organization.
