He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bryant Sears and Lillie Mae Nelson Sears; his wife Elizabeth Anne Boyce (Libby); his daughter Karla; and his sister Shirley Matkins.
He is survived by: his children, Karri Howard (Jim), Cliff Sears (Tina) and Craig Sears; his grandchildren, Grant Howard, Reese Howard (Samantha), Clay Howard, Kegan Perry (Estrella), Quinn Perry, Riley Perry, Jack Sears and Ian Sears; his stepgrandson Bradley John (Kailia); his great grandchildren, Katy, Knox, Nuada, Jaxon, Emrys and Bryanna; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Evelynn, Jeremiah and Samson.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 9:00 AM at the Christ Community Church (2960 N Scenic Dr, Alamogordo, NM 88310). A graveside service was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Forest Lawn Cemetery (1061 Mechem Dr, Ruidoso, NM 88345).
In lieu of flowers, John has requested any memorial contributions made to Cancer Research or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital (PO Box 474, Memphis, TN 38101-9958).
