He was predeceased by: his son Gerald Chavez; his parents, Pedro Chavez and Cruzita Chavez; and his in-laws, Christy Chavez, Bridgette Chavez, Gabe Chavez, Nellie Chavez, Nestor Chavez, Marcella Chavez, Billy Chavez and Lucio Mora.
He is survived by: his wife Lorrie Chavez; his children, Berna Chavez (Freddie), Marlene Hernandez (Richard), Johnny Chavez, Geraldine Armijo (Gilbert) and Rosemary Lopez (John); and his siblings, David Chavez, Pete Chavez (Joanne Baca), Moises Chavez (Susan), Robert Chavez, Lydia Laguna (Victor), Mary Ortega, Berna Mora, Roberta Placencio (Albert), Laura Barboa (Cyder) and Dolores Chavez. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
