The passing of River Pena of Albuquerque, New Mexico occurred on October 3, 2026. River, born on February 17, 2005, shared life with family, friends, and community. She was predeceased by: her great-grandparents, Joe Romero (Noonie) and Ramona Montoya; and her grandparents, Fidel Chavez and Maria Louisa Flores. She is survived by: her parents, Miranda Chavez and Carlos Pena; her siblings, Carlos Pena, Jr., Christian Pena-Chavez, Luciano Pena-Chavez, Decclyn Chavez, Ahnayelii Pena-Chavez and Gabriella Pena-Chavez; her great-grandparent Ida Romero; her grandmother Ida Chavez; and her aunts, Joyce Osborn (Shawn) and Veneranda Chavez. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Viewing was held on Wednesday, October 14th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Alderette Pomeroy Funeral Home, Inc. (244 N 1st St, Raton, NM 87740). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Lighthouse Church (1310 S 2nd St, Raton, NM 87740).
