He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Lecil Richards and Avelyn Richards (Bennett); and his siblings, Wanda Baczik, Marion, Jimmie and Clyde Richards.

He is survived by: his wife Nellie Richards; his children, Teresa Richards, Debra, Larry Scott, Steve and Terri Richards; his sisters, Kay Gatewood (Roy) and Lynda Shults (Fount); his sister-in-law Mary Jo Richards; his grandchildren, Stephanie Tackett, Kevin Tackett, Derick Richards, Lindsey Bigham, Casey Richards, Shaun Richards and Megan Brown; his great grandchildren, Tracie Richards, Penny Brown, Jaxon Bigham, Keagon Bigham, Haygon Max Bigham, Aubrey Bigham and Bailey Bigham; and his great great grandchildren, Nolan and Wyatt.

Max was a creative man who enjoyed the outdoors, he would often go hiking, collecting wood to use for canes and walking sticks he would then donate to nursing homes.
