He is survived by: his father Santiago Vela Sr.; his brother Gary Pierce; his wife Joann Vela; his children, Richard "Lil Rick" Vela Jr., Jerome Vela and Ryshel Navarrette; his grandchildren, Khloe Vela, Zavin Navarrette, Zaliyah Navarrette, Zaylianna Navarrette, ZaRaylee Navarrette and Zahrious Navarrette; and his great grandchild Dhanie Vela.
A rosary will be held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the San Jose Catholic Church (1002 Debaca St, Carlsbad, NM 88220). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
