He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Chavez and Catalina Chavez (Gonzalez); and his sister Melissa Chavez. He is survived by: his wife Elodia Chavez; his daughters, Valerie Varela (Aaron Acosta) and Veronica Alvarez; his grandchildren, Melanie Navarrette (Daniel), Justin Sing (Kaitlyn), Jasmine Sing, Lorenzo Varela, Sonny Sing (Vashti) and Shauntelle Varela; his great grandchildren, Mariana, Audriana, Sierra, Jade, Braelynn, Tucker and Brooklynn; and his siblings, Maggie Marcus, Joe Chavez, Linda Florez, Marty Galindo, Roy Chavez, Martha Quinonez and George Perez. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Denton-Wood Funeral Home (1001 N Canal St, Carlsbad, NM 88220). A vigil service will be held on Thursday, October 9th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the San Jose Catholic Church (1002 Debaca St, Carlsbad, NM 88220).
