Dorthy Dawson Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dorthy Dawson of Clovis, New Mexico, born in Sudan, Texas, who passed away on November 8, 2023, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Calvin Sr. Shaw and Ozzie Mae Shaw; her husband Herbert "Gene" Dawson; her former husband Ezekiel Taylor; and her siblings, Doris Ross, Calvin Shaw, Lois Pollard, Eunice Wauford, Charles Shaw, Sherman Shaw, Robert Shaw and Gene Shaw.

She is survived by: her sisters, Dessie Mallory of Alamogordo, NM and Betty Jan Myles (Willie) of Las Vegas, NM; her children, Phyllis Parrot (James) of Clovis, Jacqueline Todd (Earl) of Clovis, Wendy Corsey of Clovis and Sylvester Taylor (Bertha) of Clovis; her grandchildren, LaShonda Alfred (Devin), David Shaw, Jennifer Jefferies, Tethroszenia Todd, Crystal Lotterberry (Bartley), Robin Corsey, Jamika Stanberry, LaShonda Stanberry and Jamelia Lehn; her great grandchildren, LaSnosha Snowden, Alicia, Jasmin Alfred, Jazzmyna Shaw and Griffin Lotterberry; and her great great grandchild Kamariana McKenzie. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Her original composition, "Coronavirus Blues" was a regional hit with family and friends.
