He was predeceased by: his brother Clayton Gene; and his wife Carol Sue. He is survived by: his sister Cleta Kay (Marvin Blackburn); his children, Marion Ty and Twila Ky; his grandchild Tasan Nicole; his nieces and nephews, Kriste Jackson, Darrell Lynn Sparks, Lori Browning, Jan, Kenneth McBeth, Steve, MaryAnn Rutter, Allan, Melanie Rutter and Michelle Blackburn; and his stepgrandchildren, Bianca Beltran and Conner Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, Nelson requested that donations be made to the Baptist Children's Home, 2200 S. Avenue I, Portales, NM 88130.
