He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Yates and Nora Yates (Stuart); his siblings, Austin, Albert and Nora Ruth; his daughter Paula Hibner; and his son-in-law Mike Whitehead.
He is survived by: his significant other Aletta Yates (Bishop); his children, Donna Whitehead of Roswell and Jay Yates (Shelly) of Deming; his son-in-law Phil Hibner (Pat) of Deming; and his grandchildren, Jody, Melanie, Darby, Christalle, Myles, Nick, Jennifer, Kimberly, Jayme, Amber, Ira and Zay. He is also survived by 25 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in James's memory be made to the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranches, or Bethel Baptist Church Camp Fund.
