With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Romelia Zapata of Kirtland, New Mexico, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 28, 2025 at the age of 85. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Francisca Carrillo of Mendoza and Ascensión Mendoza Ruiz; her son Juan Javier Zapata; and her siblings, Manuel Mendoza, Jose Mendoza, Ramon Mendoza, Luis Mendoza, Gonzalo Mendoza and Angela Mendoza of Dominguez.
She is survived by: her former husband Javier Zapata; her daughters, Catalina Johnson (Charles Johnson Jr), Karina Saunders (Gregory Saunders), Nancy Taft (Alexander Fulton) and Diana Noriega (Robert Clar); her grandchildren, Hillary Nelson (Robert), Zachary Zapata (Vanessa), Gregary Zapata (Camry), Tristen Abbott (Stephen), Chelsea Price (Daniel), Jacob Johnson (Alexa), Joshua Johnson, Zachary Saunders (Maddie), Maxwell Saunders (Anna), Alexander Saunders (Natalie), Nicholas Saunders, Yasmine Taft, Austin Taft, Alec Taft (Lavina), Christine Noriega, Alexia Noriega and Isla Noriega; and her great grandchildren, Maverick Nelson, Scarlett Nelson, Steele Nelson, Brighton Zapata, Capri Zapata, Noah Cockrell, AJ Cockrell, Kennady Cockrell, Elaina Abbott, Adalynn Abbott, Alessia Abbott, Isla Price, Theodore Price, Everett Price, Romelia Johnson, Brooks Johnson, Jude Saunders, Lincoln Saunders, Oliver Saunders and James Taft.
Viewing was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Calendar the Church of Jesus Christ (1310 E 25th St, Farmington, NM 87401). A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Calendar Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery (59 Rd 6580, Kirtland, NM 87417).
