She was predeceased by: her parents, Valentin Balizan and Aurora Balizan; her former husband Louis Chavez; her husband Tom Deason; and her siblings, Rosina Balizan, Valentin "Tino" Balizan and Ernest Balizan (Esperanza).

She is survived by: her siblings, Irene Bailey, Albert Balizan (Carla), Patrick (Pat) and Arthur Balizan (Art); her sister-in-law Martha Balizan; her children, Felicia Krynitz, Cindy Burrell (George) and Anthony Chavez (Kristin); her stepchildren, Carol Pollard (Mike), Thomas Deason Jr. and Patrick Deason (Judy); her grandchild J. C. (Jae Young); her stepchildren, Jim (Trina), Justin (Adryana), Sheila (Billy), Katrina (Justin) and Paul; her stepgrandchildren, Kenneth, Ryan, David, Kevin, Andy, Shelby, Estrella and Christopher; her great grandchild Elijah; her stepgrandchildren, Malia, Nathaniel, Aria, Jerin, Norah, Amara, Amelia (JoJo), Jaxin, Spencer, Aeisha, Reagene and Sean; and her great great grandchildren, Malakai and Salem.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 at 4:00 PM at the Baca's Funeral Chapel (300 E Boutz Rd, Las Cruces, NM 88005). A rosary will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 at 5:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (1240 S Espina St, Las Cruces, NM 88001).

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice in loving memory of Josephine.
