He was predeceased by : his parents, Regino Melendez and Remedios Marrufo; his wife Joan N Cox Melendez; and his brothers, Luis Marrufo and Daniel Marrufo.

He is survived by : his children, Miguel Melendez, Irene Calderon (Joe) of Hobbs and Dolores Remington (Mark) of Ruidoso; his grandchildren, Nathaniel Calderon of Denver, Tamara Jones (Justin) and Chandra Miramontes (Arturo); his great grandchildren, Johnny Lopez (Alizia), Joanna Leon, Anthony Jones, Grayson Jones, Carmen Leon and Cristina Leon; and his great great grandchild Eustolia Miramontes of Roswell.

Viewing was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ballard Funeral Home & Crematory (910 S Main St, Roswell, NM 88202). A rosary was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the South Park Cemetery (3101 S Main St, Roswell, NM 88203).
