He was predeceased by: his son Anthony Chavez; his father Teodoso Chavez; his stepmother Guadalupe Chavez; his mother Corine Martinez; his stepfather Clifford Martinez; and his sister Gloria Goyne.
He is survived by: his wife Mary; and his daughters, Joyce Cota (Anthony), Nicole Stevens (Daniel), Vivian Valdez (Lorenzo), Cindy Chavez and Diana Lopez (Mark). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the Paz Funeral Home (555 W Amador Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88005).
