He was predeceased by: his son Damien O. Avelar; his parents, Juan Avelar and Antonia Avelar; and his siblings, Margie Avelar and Thomas Avelar.
He is survived by: his wife Bonnie L. Avelar; his daughter Heather (Martin); his grandsons, Roman and Ethan Orrantia; and his siblings, Andrea Avelar, Luis Avelar, Josie Avelar, Speedy Avelar and Juan Avelar. He is also survived by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
