He was predeceased by : his grandmother Ada Turnbeaugh; and his mother Joann Bownds. He is survived by : his father Jim Bownds; his brother Brian Bownds (Mary Lopez) of Janesville, WI; his children, Leland Cook of Albuquerque, NM, Kristin Weems (Chris) and Shawn Franken of Portales, NM; and his grandchildren, Andrea Weems, Breanna Cook, Markus Weems and Landon Cook.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be sent to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.
