We announce the death of Pedro Chavez of Ribera, New Mexico, who passed away on September 14, 2026, at the age of 85. Pedro will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Onofre Lucero and Eliseo Chavez; his son James "Jimmy" Chavez; his granddaughter Crystal Chavez; his sister Ambrosia "Mary" Villas; and his siblings-in-law, Arsenio Villas, Arsenio Sandoval, Isabel "Chavela" Sandoval and Teresa "Tere" Maestas.
He is survived by: his wife Dolores Quiteria Chavez; his children, Dennis Chavez (Patricia) of Henderson, Debbie Trujillo (Lloyd) of Rio Rancho, NM, Donna James (Van) of Seligman, AZ and Joseph "Joey" Chavez (LuAnn) of Las Vegas, NM.; and his grandchildren, Denise Jones (Tyy), Jennifer Bagwell (Keith), Sandra Hackney (Lewis), Dennis Chavez Anthony Chavez (Amanda), Anethea Lucero (Victor), Nicole Trujillo, Kristen Rodriguez (Rufino), Danielle Trujillo (Dean), Pete James, Michael James (Jackie) and Dennis James (Jazmyne).
A rosary will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church (403 Valencia St, Las Vegas, NM 87701). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 9:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Santo Nino Cemetery-Gallinas General.
