He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred M Nelson and Florace Morgan Nelson; his sister Laurene Eastham (David); his nephew Robert Allen Eastham; and his grandson Stephen Houghtaling.

He is survived by: his spouse Joyce LaSuer Walsh Nelson; his daughters, Margo Eichwald, Ann Houghtaling and Jane McLaughlin; and his uncle Morgan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of his educational foundations.
