He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Mares and Santitos Mares; his wife Juanita Mares; and his children, Pauline DePari and Leonard Mares.
He is survived by: his siblings, Alfonsa Apodaca of Springer and Abenicio Mares of Longmont, Colorado.; his daughters, Rose Briggs (Robert Valenzuela) of Springer and Mary Ann O'Neil (Mike) of Colorado Springs; his daughter-in-law Denine Mares of Derby, Kansas.; and his grandchildren, Nicole Herrera, Jessica DePari, April Blatchford, James Butler, Joseph DePari, Renne O'Neil and Tierza Rose Torrez. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A rosary will be held on Friday, October 30th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the St Joseph's Catholic Church (605 5th St, Springer, NM 87747). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 30th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location.
