He was predeceased by: his father Clarence W. Shafer (Terrin); his significant other Esperanza Rodriguez Shafer; and his sisters, Margaret Knapp and Doris Mae Popelka. He is survived by: his children, John Russell Shafer of Yerington, Nevada and Ann Marie O'Bannon (Steven) of Simi Valley; his grandchildren, Thomas, Rachel, Victoria, Micheal, Cameron and Jeremiah; his great grandchildren, Anjalayna, Kaydan, Raelyn and Opal Dewn; and his niece Renee Popelka Jahlas (Rick) of Belle Plains.
