He was predeceased by: his son Donald R. Shumate; and his siblings, Donald R. Shumate, Leslie Shumate and Mary Elizabeth Ball. He is survived by: his wife Verla M. Shumate (Vee); and his children, Charles L. Shumate (Chuck), Joseph M. Shumate (Misty), Jeanne M. McJunkin (William) and Elizabeth L. Mercer (Gene). He is also survived by several granddaughters, grandsons and great grandchildren.
