He was predeceased by: his former wife Joan Margaret "Peggy" Carey; his child Thomas Carey (Jacqueline); his parents, Thomas Carey and Margaret Carey; and his siblings-in-law, Margaret Klinger (late James), Robert Talbot (Judith) and Helen Talbot.

He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Carey; his children, Patricia Carey (Tom Hogan), Daniel Carey, Elizabeth Ann Scarlett (Thomson) and Margaret Ann "Maggie" Carey; his grandchildren, Alexandra, Samantha, Grace, Jackson and Veronica; his siblings, Maryann Emerling (Thomas), Robert Carey (Joyce) and Rose Orluk (John); his sisters-in-law, Kathleen "Kitty" Dillen (late Kenneth), Marianne Willig (Joseph) and Nancy Dannecker (late George); and his friends, Jim Joseph and Pat Healy (Carol Ann). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was held on Monday, September 28th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Charles Meyer Funeral Home (13228 Broadway, Alden, NY 14004). A Mass was held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary of the Assumption Church (1 St Marys Hill, Lancaster, NY 14086).
