He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald E. Bates and Evelyn Dick Bates. He is survived by: his wife Wanda Young-Bates of Amsterdam; his daughters, Lisa Bates (David) and Marisa Bates Genier (Ethan); and his brothers, Timothy Bates (Yvonne) and George Bates (Kathy).
