He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gavel and Stella Ilnicki of Amsterdam; his wife Kathryn Violyn of Amsterdam; and his sister Carolyn Deay of Perth. He is survived by: his sons, Kevin Gavel (Jennifer Wilday) of Galway and Rob Violyn-Gavel (David Lowry) of Schenectady; his siblings, Sylvia Kowalski of Amsterdam, Delores Miller of La Mesa and John Gavel (Joyce) of Galway; his grandchildren, Ashely Gavel (Mitch Kierpiec) of Fonda and Hanna Gavel of Schenectady; and his great grandchildren, Poppy Kierpiec and Calla Kierpiecof of Fonda. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
