He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbert W. Rice and Ruth E. Rice (Custer); and his siblings, W. James Rice, Thelma Handelong and Evelyn Fay Crawford.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Rice (Kilmer); his children, David Rice, Diane Dellapenna (Thomas), Nicola Keptner and Judith Brewer (Thomas); his grandchildren, Olivia, Thomas Dellapenna, Anna, Emily, Liam Keptner, Hilary Keptner Hernick (Steve) and Nicholas Brewer (Lexy); his great grandchild Noah Brewer; his siblings, Peggy Konitsky and Thomas; and his sister-in-law Anne Kilmer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
