He was predeceased by: his parents, Marjory Williamson McWhorter and James Laurence McWhorter; his wife Edna Guilder; his siblings, Roland, David McWhorter, Lois Kilmer, Mary Lou McWhorter, Bruce and Kenneth Thomas Whorter; and his siblings-in-law, Maurice Kilmer, Shirley, Suzanne, Judy, Sandra and Faith McWhorter.

He is survived by: his close friend Tammie Perry; and his siblings, Dr. Earl J. McWhorter, John McWhorter, Donald McWhorter, Gordon McWhorter (Elizabeth), Paul McWhorter and Dorothy Sherman (Gary).
