He was predeceased by: his parents, Rocco Spinelli and Julia Spinelli (Busce); and his siblings, Vincent Spinelli and Jeanette Howard. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Vinette Ziegler Spinelli; and his stepchildren, Elizabeth Garrad (Gene), JoAnn Sperduti (Joseph), Ruth Gerry (Tim), Laura Dushane (Donald), John Spinelli Jr., Linda Atwood (Tim), Gregory Ziegler (Kathy) and Krista Clements (Gyle).

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
