It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gilbert N. Backer of Ava, New York, who passed away on January 15, 2026, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Horace Backer and Hattie Fox Backer; his former wife Constance Ross; his siblings, Raymond, Stanley, Willard, Douglas, Warren and Jeanette Malone; and his stepgrandchildren, Vanessa Owens and Thomas Giannico.
He is survived by: his girlfriend Anna Owens; his children, Denise Youngs (EJ), Kelley Weiler (Randy) and Rodney Backer (Gydesen); his sister Doris Spinelli; his stepchildren, Barbara Owens (Joel Amidon), Darlene Macri (Sam) and Gordon Owens (Cleste); his grandsons, Jeremy Youngs (Shawna), Bradley Weiler (Kristen) and Jason Backer (Heather); and his stepgrandchildren, Jake Gydesen (Erin), Sarah Sturdevant (Chad), Nick Owens, Dan Goodman, Lance Macri, Jeff Macri, Luke Macri, Jason Owens, Carmen Thomas, Millie Giannico, Dominick Giannico, Michael Giannico, Claire Owens, Cate Owens, Patrick Giannico and Chris Giannico. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.
