With heavy hearts, we announce the death of David Lee Funston of Batavia, New York, born in Syracuse, New York, who passed away on December 29, 2020 at the age of 82. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Funston and Margaret Funston (Windett). He is survived by: his wife Anne Funston (Benjamin) of Batavia; his children, Barbara Baker (John) of Stafford, Virginia and Brian Funston (Kristin) of Golden, Colorado; his grandchildren, Alison Baker Bryant (Jeffrey), Samuel Baker (Kayla), Elsie Baker, Jeb Baker, Maggie Funston and Matthew Funston; and his siblings, Bruce Funston (late Shirley) of Jackson, Michigan and Eileen Houston (late Robert) of Lansing, Michigan..

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesee Symphony Orchestra, PO Box 391, Batavia, NY 14021; St. James Church, 405 E. Main St., Batavia, NY 14020; or Speculator Ambulance Corps, PO 203, Speculator, NY 12164.

“David sometimes came to Church at St. Mark's, with Anne's help, to be in choir even when he was unwell. David was a tenor in our choir and he helped keep the men in tune. For Easter services he brought his two large kettle drums to compliment the choir and a small orchestra, and tambourines when we marched around the church with our children. David made wooden crosses for us. We will miss David, a kind and upbeat man.”
