He was predeceased by: his former wife Theresa Widner App; his sister Edna Lux (George); his daughter Joanne Tarr (Mike); his granddaughter Jennifer App; his great grandchild Charley Radcliffe; his nephew George Lux (Carol); and his parents, Adam App and Edna App.

He is survived by: his wife Violet McHale; his children, Thomas (Nancy) of Morton, PA, Timothy (Susan) of Bellingham, MA and Theresa Tisano (Tom) of Lakewood, PA; his stepdaughters, Cyndi Paddick (John) of Binghamton, NY and Penny Cook (David Cahn) of Denver, CO; his nephew Bob Lux (Claire); his grandchildren, Scott, Jeff, Chrissy, Katie, Timmy, Stephen, Sarah, Emily, Jackie and Lisa; and his great grandchildren, Andrew, Kaitlin, Kimberly, Casey, Hailey, Taylor, Ryan, Everly, Jolene, Adam, Bruce, Zackery, Olivia, William, Hazel, Logan and Austin.
