He was predeceased by: his parents, Wade Whitbeck and Anita Whitbeck; his wife Shirley Whitbeck (Bush); and his siblings, Gayle, Margaret, Ruth, Barbara, John, Sr. and Charles.

He is survived by: his sons, Robert Whitbeck (Pat) and Michael Whitbeck (Amy); his grandchildren, Megan (Sean), Macie (Kendall) and Madaleyne (Tom); his sisters, Joan and Beverly; his close friend Julie Billet; and his brother-in-law Butch.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of his wife Shirley.
