He was predeceased by: his daughter Susan Singer; and his parents, John Petras and Susan Petras. He is survived by: his wife Irma; his sons, John M. Petras and James Petras (Leigh); his grandchildren, Alicia Bracco (Chris), Daniel Singer, James, Natalie and Allison Petras; his great grandchild Croix Bracco; his brother Edward Petras (Carol); and his niece Marlene Boedecker. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
