Anastacio Martinez Obituary
Anastacio “Pin” Martinez, 86, joined his beloved wife, Valentina, in eternal rest, November 9, 2021. He was surrounded by those he held the dearest to his heart. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Pin, and his bride moved to the Bronx, NY in 1957 at 22 to begin a new life and start their family. He began his professional journey in Manhattan hotels starting out as a busboy upon arrival. Pin’s hard work and artistic talent would move him through his career to later become a pastry chef at some of the most prestigious hotels in New York City. While working as the Master Pastry Chef at the Saint Regis Hotel in NYC, he served many famous guests, including the time he created a special cake for Michael Jackson’s debut of the Thriller album. He retired at the age of 65 as the Master Pastry Chef at Helmsley Palace. Some of his other gifts included his artistic ability and his passion for writing and reciting poetry.
Anastacio is predeceased by his grandson, Ricardo Martinez, Jr, his brothers Timoteo and Manolo. He is survived by his children Yvonne Martinez-Ruiz (Christine West), Ricardo Martinez (Christine Wickrath), and James Martinez (Christina), his grandchildren Noel Martinez, Yasmin Ruiz-Patterson, Ryan West, Arielle Martinez, Jimmy Martinez, and Julian Martinez, his sister Magdalena, his beloved niece, Yesenia Rivera-Pena (Max), several nieces and nephews, and his dear companion Gloria Gonzalez.
