Aurea Esther Vega Obituary
Aurea Esther Vega departed this world in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loved ones, on May 13, 2026. She left behind a legacy of love, faith, and enduring memories.
Her late husband Felix Vega and her siblings proceeded her in death. This included her five sisters with whom she shared an incredibly close relationship with. She often spoke fondly of them in particular. After their passing, Aurea continued to embody a generous and child like spirit, nurturing her remaining family with these traits that she was known for.
She is survived by her devoted son, Ángel Vega, and his loving wife, Dae Vega, who tenderly cared for her in her last days. She spoke her last words to her son on May 8th, "Te quiero mucho mucho.". Aurea's legacy of love and kindness lives on through her nieta and namesake Myriam Aurea-Rose, who she doted on and who brought her immense joy. Aurea was not only a beloved mother and abuelita but a beacon of light to all who knew her.
She will forever be remembered and celebrated fondly on May 13th on the feast of Our Lady of Fatima and the wedding anniversary of her son and daughter-in-law. Her passing on this day has only made it even more special.
Aurea's professional life as an office aide for the City of New York was marked by pride, dedication and hard work, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. She was deeply involved with and attended and contributed to Sacred Heart Parish for well over 50 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her with a profound love for Jesus and Mary.
Her passions ran as deep as her roots, with Puerto Rico holding a special place of pride in her heart. Everyone who knew her knew how much she loved angels, and giving cards and gifts. Aurea found joy in the simple beauty of butterflies and sunflowers, which mirrored her gentle spirit. She loved nurturing plants and gardening. Her presence was a reminder of the beauty that surrounds us every day, and she touched the lives of many with her warm smile.
The family will gratefully accept contributions towards burial expenses via SISTO funeral home (see tribute fund tab on memorial page). Additional donations can be given in her memory to St. Jude Hospital, an organization close to Aurea's heart, at St. Jude Hospital Donation.
The love Aurea shared with those around her will forever be cherished and remembered. As she joins her beloved Felix and siblings in eternal rest, her legacy continues to inspire us to live with kindness, and devoted faith in Chist.
