Jonathan Melo Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jonathan Melo Jr., a beloved son, brother, and friend, age 17, on April 29, 2026.
Jonathan was a kind and bright young man who brought warmth and laughter to those around him. He lit up the room and was always surrounded by friends, known for his energy, humor, and the way he made every moment feel alive. He shared an especially close bond with his mother, who meant the world to him. He loved playing basketball with his friends, video games with his brother, and spending time at the gym exercising with his dad—moments that meant a great deal to him and those he shared them with. At home, he was a loving brother, often teasing his sisters in a way that showed his affection and brought laughter to those around him. From a young age, Jonathan had a special relationship with God and remained connected to his faith through his church, Centro Cristiano Betel NYC, where he was supported by his pastors and community. Those closest to him will always remember his smile, his humor, and the light he carried.
He is survived by his loving parents, Raquel and Jonathan Melo Sr.; his brother, Jeremiah; and his sisters, Arabella and Liara. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates, his girlfriend, and many friends who will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Maria, with whom he shared a close and loving bond, and who passed just one week before him.
Though his life was brief, his impact was meaningful and lasting. He leaves behind more than memories—he leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of those who knew him. May his life be honored through the stories we share, the moments we hold close, and the quiet acts of kindness we show one another. In that way, his spirit continues to live on.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
