Margie Vega Obituary
Margie Vega was born on April 28, 1941, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Juana Lopez De Victoria and Gaspar Andreu. She was one of five children being protected by her four brothers named Chegui, Paul, Freddie and Eddie. At a young age she moved to Spanish Harlem with her family where she became an official New Yorker. Margie like most came from a big family with her brothers and cousins such as cousin Cookie and cousin Angie being her closest. Margie was always known for her smile and happy demeanor. She completed her education by graduating from Julia Richman High School and soon entered the workforce. It was during this commute to Manhattan from the Bronx, where she now lived, where she caught the eye of a young handsome man named Feliberto (Phil). Phil was a smart man since he knew Margie was a keeper and in January of 1965 he made Margie his wife. It was this next phase of Margie's life where she carried out her greatest role as a mother and devoted wife. Margie gave birth to two children, her daughter Jeannine, and her son Kevin. Margie was instrumental in leading by example; she was selfless and always prepared for the unexpected and always made sure her home was in order.
Margie had passions as well. She loved dancing to salsa music and would go out frequently with her husband to enjoy the bands and dance the night away. Even in her later years, when she was bedridden, her ears would perk up when a Marc Anthony song came on and she'd snap her fingers to the beat. Margie loved to go to the casinos and play the slots but never did hit that big payday. Margie's passion was also work since she was employed for 30 years at Good Shepherd Services, where she was loved by all her co-workers. Until her passing there is not a person alive who came across Margie who did not consider her a friend and warmhearted person.
Margie Vega passed away at home peacefully on Bronx River Ave, where she lived for 50 years, on July 31, 2026, surrounded by family. Margie is survived by her husband Phil, her daughter Jeannine, her son Kevin and his wife Nannette. She was a beloved grandmother to Andy, Nicky, Justin, Nathaniel and Aj and to step-grandchildren Zoe and Dean. She also had the honor of being a great-grandmother to James and Elly. Margie is gone but will never be forgotten. I'm sure she is looking down on us now surrounded by her family in heaven smiling and making heaven a better place for those around her.
